The 2014 season was a banner year for the GT Cup with grid numbers regularly into the thirties as the championship’s profile continued to rise. At the season’s finale no fewer than four titles were decided in the closing laps of the final races. It is this level of drama and excitement that enticed ninety-four drivers to participate in the GT Cup in 2014.
For 2015 the championship continues to evolve with a number of enhancements being implemented including:
- Championship extended to 22 rounds over eight events
- Saturday pit stop race lengthened by five minutes to 50 minutes
- Minimum weight limit of 1,200kg to be implemented in GTO, GTC and GTB groups to maintain close racing
- Headlining at five MSVR weekends
- Races on three Grand Prix circuits
- Major support race to Blancpain Sprint Series
- Increased championship points difference between places
- A new website and upgraded hospitality
These enhancements will see the championship continue to grow and will enable drivers to compete on a level playing field throughout the season. Close, exciting racing throughout the field can only be the result when the GT Cup gets underway in 2015. Entry forms will be available in the coming weeks.
